The Heavy Recovery vehicle RV-20 is built on a new Tatra 816 8x8 chassis with exceptional torsional rigidity, permanent all-wheel drive, torque divider, 2 interaxle and 4 axle lockable differentials, independent swing semiaxle suspension, automatic transmission, central tyre inflation system controlled from within the cab.
The crane was specially designed for military purposes with steel coverings of all life important parts. Fully rotating crane has telescopic erecting beam with lifting capacity of 15 000 kgs. Four hydraulic telescopic stabilizers are provided to use when the crane is operating. It can operate on slopes up to 5° without any limitations of its characteristics due to automatic self leveling system.
The main recovery equipment is a winch supplied with a usable 100 m of cable with continuous pulling capacity of 240 kN (24 500 kg). The main winch is also used for the self recovery from the front of the vehicle. Front mounted dozer blade and rear anchor plate are also provided. The vehicle is also equipped with auxiliary winch having 300 m of cable with pulling capacity of 8,2 kN.
Special equipment placed on rear part of RV-20 enables towing vehicle with hanged and lifted front axle (up to 130 kN). The vehicles up to 65 000 kgs may be towed by RV-20 using the bar.
The space in superstructure enable to carry various special recovery tools, repairing equipment including cutting and welding set. A purpose made platform in the rear part of the vehicle is designed to carry a power pack or other appropriate load up to 7 000 kg.
